A Day in a Life wearing Yukata

Oh I wish I could go to Japan dressed with a pretty kimono just like an anime character! XD One day, I went to a workshop to learn Japanese Calligraphy and, of course, the process of wearing a Yukata.  Yukata is a traditional clothing worn by both men and women in Japan. Contrary to kimono which is worn for winter and formal events, it is usually worn in spring or summer suitable for more casual events.  A collection of Yukata by our teacher, Janica Te As you can see in the movies or magazines, Yukata in women are more attractive than the ones worn by men. One of the reasons is that women are supposed to be more presentable, as they should look pretty like flowers. I really like how this japanese clothing is designed. I never thought that the sleeves could hold some phones or wallet if you want to put something inside lol. (Credits to Photo Dimensions) However, wearing it can be meticulous as well and an assistant will be needed. There are many parts included in the pr...

Gastronomy with Watercolors

Honestly, my favorite medium for painting is watercolor. I have tried acrylics and gouache paints but i really like the transparency and blending abilities of watercolor. I always use it to make mouth-watering illustrations of food and beverages. As someone that loves travelling, I always look forward about beautiful places, rich culture, and cuisine. It sparks joy to me like a mental therapy, and I feel inspired to paint after the trip. Of course, it will inspire me too to paint the foods that I ate.   Below are the samples of my food illustrations: Breakfast meal series (2023) Afternoon tea series (2023) Drinks/ Beverages (2023) Sometimes, i search for references not to copy but to learn more in putting the highlights and shadows. My realism is still a work in progress, but I always make sure that they look tasty and pretty similar to reality. I really enjoy making food illustrations, because it feels like i'm in my comfort zone. Even if i work for a recipe book or a r...

Thank you, 2023.

Another year, another journey, another challenge for me. I can't believe how time flies so fast.       Looking at 2023, i think i have experienced a lot of new things that i did not conquer last year. I was able to have my first international trip, had my first interracial dating, first time to participate in an international Watercolor exhibit, also had my first time to set up an Artist Alley. Those are just some of the highlights that i can remember, and to be honest, it took me courage to make those things happen as a very shy person. But what makes me anxious right now is that, i am on my way to 30. You've heard it right. A week from now, i will end my twenties to face my thirties. The question is, am i even ready for this?  In my own standards of what success is, what i have right now is still far from what i want to achieve. There is still a place for me to learn,  improve, and pursue. I understand that what i've been dreaming of doesn't happen overni...

My First Artist Alley

Hi! I am writing again to share my first-time experience in joining the Artist Alley. I participated as one of the exhibitors in the 2nd Davao Pop Culture Mania held in La Herencia Davao Art Events Pavillion. Well, the event happened a few months ago so this blog is a bit late. Nevertheless, it is better to be late than never, right? So here it goes.. Davao Pop Culture Mania  was an event to celebrate the art & love of toys, collectibles, gaming, anime, manga, and cosplay. It was powered by Davao Art  Kollective and Alter-Moderne Events   which was a month-long experience for crafters and fans for all ages. From the phrase itself "Pop Culture", it promotes creativity and positive engagement among the youth and young at heart. This year's event was held for three consecutive weeks, dedicated for these following highlights:  Week 1:  Toys, Hobbies, Collectibles Week 2:   Arcade, Card, and E-Sports Week 3:  Cosplay, Anime, and Manga Having ...

A Day in a Life with Polymer Clay!

Here i share to you my experience in making crafts using Polymer clay.  One day, i went to the cafe to participate in Polymer clay workshop by miss Jiselle Fian of Sugar Clay Beads. Believe me, i did not know anything about Polymer clays & sculpting wasn't even in my list at first. But upon scrolling in my social media, i became curious about the  miniatures and how they emphasized the details to it. One of the artists that i saw during the pandemic was the Filipino actor Hero Angeles. He posted his mouth-watering food miniatures & one of those was the Dalgona candy of "Squid Game"! The teacher was so generous in sharing her knowledge about making Polymer Clay crafts. Also, i noticed that compared to air dry clay, this type of clay needs to be baked in a calibrated oven, and the details you make seem to be more appreciated. Polymer clays are so good if you want to make miniatures with smaller details.  With Polymer clay, you can make lots of things like ref magnet...

Joiners in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Petronas Twin Tower This late blog post was about our trip to Kuala Lumpur in 2023, after we visited Singapore. :) After our trip in its neighboring country, we took a 4-hour flight to Kuala Lumpur (the capital city of Malaysia) via Scoot. Little did I know, that there was still outdoor visibility at 7pm in Malaysia, which is different in my country. So I guess there is an advantage too, like lower crime rate in the evening ? Hehe Anyway, we arrived in the evening and as expected everything seemed to be more affordable than in Singapore. We were able to sleep on a fancy hotel, and spent most of our free time wandering around the city like locals. We tried some local dishes to have a taste of their cuisine, and most of the joiners in our group had unexplainable reactions maybe because we were not used to it.  We bought a lot of souvenirs too! Again, the cost of living in Malaysia was way cheaper compared to Singapore so you don't have to worry so much about shopping for items. W...

A Trip to the Lion City, Singapore

Merlion Park I've been travelling since my early twenties, but months ago, I had my first international trip. Singapore was one of the go-to destinations especially for beginners like me.  My favorite part was getting into Universal Studios . I was so amazed with this world-class amusement park and so I took a lot of photos. However, everything inside was kind of pricey so I just bought snacks and some souvenirs that I could afford at that time. Me and my friend enjoyed the rides so much. I personally recommend their indoor roller coaster, Return of the Mummy. Universal Studios Singapore Even if you don't get inside the park, you can still enjoy a lot of things from the outside. You will see shopping malls, restaurants, and casino so for sure you won't get bored. We also visited the famous Gardens by the Bay . I noticed that there were a lot of places to choose from, with their corresponding entrance fees. We chose to explore the Flower Dome and the OCBC Skyway. I was so h...
