Honestly, my favorite medium for painting is watercolor. I have tried acrylics and gouache paints but i really like the transparency and blending abilities of watercolor. I always use it to make mouth-watering illustrations of food and beverages.
As someone that loves travelling, I always look forward about beautiful places, rich culture, and cuisine. It sparks joy to me like a mental therapy, and I feel inspired to paint after the trip. Of course, it will inspire me too to paint the foods that I ate.
Below are the samples of my food illustrations:
Breakfast meal series (2023)
Afternoon tea series (2023)
Drinks/ Beverages (2023)
Sometimes, i search for references not to copy but to learn more in putting the highlights and shadows. My realism is still a work in progress, but I always make sure that they look tasty and pretty similar to reality. I really enjoy making food illustrations, because it feels like i'm in my comfort zone. Even if i work for a recipe book or a restaurant menu, i will never feel like working at all, compared to making portraits.
Hopefully, I will find the right market for my niche. I have never tried working with book projects before and trying something new will be a pleasure to me!
