Hi! How was your Chinese New Year?
I saw a lot of food vlogs from Manila Chinatown and it made me curious. You know, I would love to explore new places and try their cuisine. So visiting Manila Chinatown won't be complete without food trip! Yum!
It was just a quick little trip before my departure back to Davao. I had few hours left to explore so I researched beforehand the foods that I wanted to try.
According to Wikipedia, "Binondo" is a district of Manila referred to as the city's Chinatown. It is an old district where businesses by Filipino-Chinese families flourished. Also, it is known as the oldest Chinatown in the world, established in 1594.
One of the interesting spots to visit in Binondo is the Ongpin street. There are a lot of restaurants, food stalls, and tea houses that serve authentic Chinese cuisine for an affordable price, making it a gastronomic and cultural hotspot for tourists and content creators of this generation.
I personally recommend these spots to visit, especially for tourists who have limited time and are looking for an authentic Chinese food:
1. Shanghai Fried Siopao
2. Chuan Kee
3. Cafe Mezzanine
4. Lord Stow's Bakery
5. Eng Bee Tin (for souvenir shopping)
At first, the buildings look old and humble, but actually, they really serve delicious foods and if you are looking for souvenirs there are many great options to choose from! Be reminded also that some spots have pretty long queue, so plan ahead if you only have a limited amount of time to wander around lol.
I was not able to try the other popular spots because I was already full and I only had few hours left before the flight. So definitely there is a reason for me to come back next time.
When I came back at home, I think they liked everything that I bought hehe XD
